Dishwashing problems tend to show up at the worst time. The cycle ends, you open the door and there is water around the filter, or the glasses still feel gritty after two hours. Fix Cheetah provides dishwasher repair in Vancouver, Surrey and throughout Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Sea-to-Sky corridor, serving houses, condos, townhomes and rental suites.
Our technicians work on conventional built-in machines as well as European, integrated, panel-ready and drawer dishwashers. We service Bosch, Miele, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, Thermador, Gaggenau, ASKO, Blomberg, Beko, Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer and Fulgor Milano models, with factory training and warranty authorization where applicable.
Integrated dishwashers require more care than simply pulling a machine out of a cabinet. We protect custom panels, flooring and countertop edges, check the mounting and levelling, and make sure the dishwasher is secure before it goes back into service.
Early warning signs worth noticing
A dishwasher rarely fails without giving you a few clues first. Longer cycles, unusual pump sounds or a new odour can point to a problem before a leak or complete shutdown occurs.
- Cycles taking noticeably longer than normal
- A humming, grinding or rattling sound during draining
- Detergent remaining in the dispenser after the cycle
- Musty odour around the tub or filter
- Flashing lights, repeated beeps or an error code
- The machine running continuously because its leak-protection system has activated
How we diagnose dishwasher faults
We begin with the filter, sump and drain path because debris and restricted flow account for many cleaning and drainage complaints. Where the model provides a service mode, we use it to operate the inlet valve, circulation pump, drain pump and heater separately. That helps distinguish a blocked system from an electrical or component failure.
Leaks are traced rather than assumed. We inspect the door seal, sump, pump housing, hoses, clamps and inlet connection, then check the base pan on models equipped with a leak sensor. The goal is to correct the source so the protection system does not simply trip again.
Panel-ready, integrated and drawer dishwasher service
Fully integrated dishwashers can be attached to custom cabinet fronts and tightly fitted beneath stone countertops. When access requires the unit to move, we plan the removal so the panel and surrounding finish are protected. Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer models need a different diagnostic approach because their drawers have separate tubs, actuators, pumps and wiring connections.
We also account for installation details such as levelling, drain routing and the dishwasher's securing brackets. A machine that is slightly out of level can contribute to door, leak and drainage complaints, so the physical installation is part of the repair.
Water quality, detergent and cleaning performance
Water conditions and detergent dosage can change how a dishwasher behaves. In soft-water areas, excessive detergent can leave a cloudy film or create unnecessary suds. Where water is harder, mineral deposits can collect around heaters and spray-arm openings. The right detergent quantity, rinse-aid setting and water-hardness setting depend on the appliance and local supply.
- Clean the filter regularly and inspect the spray arms for blocked openings
- Avoid using ordinary dish soap, which can create excessive suds
- Run the kitchen tap until hot before starting a cycle
- Use rinse aid when recommended, particularly on condensation-drying models
- Set the built-in water softener according to the manufacturer's instructions
Repair or replace your dishwasher?
Drain pumps, inlet valves, heaters, door latches, seals, float switches and spray arms are common repairable components. Circulation pumps and control boards can be more expensive, but repair may still be sensible on a quality or integrated machine, especially when replacing the unit would require fitting a new cabinet panel.
Replacement becomes more attractive when the tub is cracked or rusted through, several major components have failed at once, or a lower-cost machine has reached the point where the repair no longer makes financial sense. We diagnose first and give you the information needed to make that call.
5 Most Common Dishwasher Issues and How to Fix Them
Dishwasher not draining
Standing water above the filter can come from a blocked filter, restricted drain hose, clogged air gap or a connection problem at the disposal. A newly installed disposal can also retain its knockout plug. If the drain pump hums without moving water, the pump or its impeller may be failing. Turn off power before inspecting the filter and never work on the electrical side with the unit energized.
Dishwasher not cleaning dishes
Poor cleaning can result from blocked spray-arm holes, a dirty filter, low fill, weak circulation pressure or detergent problems. Clear visible debris, check that the spray arms can rotate and avoid overloading the racks. If water pressure inside the tub remains weak, the inlet valve and circulation system should be tested.
Dishwasher not drying
Some European machines rely heavily on condensation drying, so a small amount of water on plastic items can be normal. Low rinse-aid levels, an ineffective final rinse, a failed heater, thermistor or drying fan can cause excessive wetness. If the machine finishes with cold water or the drying system is not behaving normally, professional testing is appropriate.
Dishwasher leaking
Leaks around the door can come from a damaged gasket, poor levelling or excessive suds. Water underneath may originate at the pump seal, sump, hose connection or inlet valve. Stop the cycle, shut off the water supply if necessary and avoid continued use until the source is identified, especially in condos where a small leak can damage cabinets or flooring.
Dishwasher won't start
Start with the control lock, door latch and power supply. A dishwasher may refuse to run if the door switch does not confirm a secure latch. A thermal fuse, control board, wiring fault or GFCI issue can produce similar symptoms. If the breaker trips again after being reset, leave it off and arrange a diagnosis.
If the filter's clean and the hose isn't kinked, it's time for a proper diagnosis. We test the pumps, valves, heater and controls, fit replacement parts and repair dishwashers across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

Dishwasher FAQ
Why is water sitting in the bottom of my dishwasher?
A small amount of water can remain in the sump by design, but water standing above the filter usually points to restricted drainage, a blocked hose, air gap or failed drain pump.
How often should I clean a dishwasher filter?
For most homes, checking it every few weeks is a useful routine. Heavy cooking, pet hair or food debris may require more frequent cleaning. Follow the appliance manual for the exact procedure.
Why does my dishwasher smell bad?
Food residue in the filter, sump or door seals is a common cause. Standing water, a partially blocked drain or infrequent cleaning can also create odours. If cleaning does not resolve it, the drain path should be inspected.
Can you repair a panel-ready dishwasher without damaging the cabinet?
Yes. We regularly work with integrated and panel-ready units and use care when removing and reinstalling the custom front. The appliance is levelled and secured again before the job is finished.
Why are my dishes still wet after the cycle?
Drying design matters. Some machines use condensation drying and naturally leave plastics wetter. Low rinse aid, a heater fault, sensor problem or drying-system issue can also be responsible.
Do you repair Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer models?
Yes. Single and double drawer models can be diagnosed and repaired, including their pumps, actuators, wiring, sensors and control components.
Is it worth repairing an older dishwasher?
Often, yes, when the tub and structure are sound and the failed component is straightforward. If the tub is damaged or several expensive parts have failed on a budget machine, replacement may be the better option.
