A dryer that needs two cycles for one ordinary load is telling you something. Fix Cheetah provides dryer repair in Vancouver, Surrey and across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Sea-to-Sky corridor for electric, gas, heat-pump and condenser models.
Slow drying is also a warning sign. Restricted airflow can raise operating temperatures, stress heating components and increase energy use. That is why airflow is considered alongside the heating system rather than treating a blown thermal fuse as the entire problem.
We are warranty-authorized for selected brands and factory-trained on Whirlpool, LG, Samsung and Miele, while also servicing a broad range of household and premium dryer models. Gas dryer work is handled by appropriately certified technicians and completed in accordance with applicable BC requirements.
Warning signs that are easy to overlook
Dryers give warnings through changes in time, temperature, sound and smell. Catching a small change early beats waiting for a complete shutdown.
- Dryer cabinet or laundry room becomes unusually hot
- Burning, scorched or electrical smell during a cycle
- Exterior vent flap barely opens while the dryer runs
- Lint accumulates behind the machine
- Clothes are hotter than usual when the cycle ends
- Heat-pump or condenser model displays repeated filter or water-tank warnings
How we diagnose dryer problems
For slow drying, we inspect the vent path and airflow first. A crushed transition duct, blocked exterior hood or lint-filled run can cause repeated overheating and thermal-fuse failures. Once airflow is established, we test the heating circuit.
Electric dryers are checked for elements, thermal fuses, high-limit and cycling thermostats and moisture sensors. Gas models require inspection of the igniter, flame sensor, valve coils and burner. For a drum problem, we examine the belt, rollers, idler, glides, blower and motor. Heat-pump dryers have additional components including fans, condensers and condensate systems.
Gas dryer repair and safety
Gas dryers need specialized handling because the appliance combines fuel, ignition and heat. A qualified technician checks the gas connection, ignition sequence, burner operation and venting after repair. If you smell gas, leave the home without operating electrical switches and contact the appropriate emergency gas service from outside.
Venting, condos and coastal conditions
Long dryer ducts are common in condos and townhomes, particularly where the route travels to a roof or exterior wall. Lint and moisture can accumulate in bends and restrictions. Ventless heat-pump and condenser dryers avoid an exterior duct but still require clean filters, heat exchangers and condensate paths.
- Clean the lint screen before every load
- Have long or complex vent runs inspected and cleaned regularly
- Use suitable metal transition ducting rather than plastic
- Clean heat-pump or condenser filters as directed
- Leave enough room around the appliance for the manufacturer's airflow requirements
Repair or replace your dryer?
Thermal fuses, heating elements, thermostats, igniters, belts, rollers and idler pulleys are often practical repairs. Premium and heat-pump dryers can also justify repair because replacement costs are higher.
Replacement may make more sense when a lower-cost dryer has several major failures, severe drum or cabinet damage, or a repair that approaches the cost of a suitable new unit. We give you the diagnosis first.
5 Most Common Dryer Issues and How to Fix Them
Dryer not heating
An electric dryer may have a failed element, thermal fuse or thermostat. Gas models may have a weak igniter, flame sensor or valve coils. A thermal fuse that has opened can indicate overheating caused by restricted airflow, so the vent must be checked before simply fitting another fuse.
Dryer takes too long to dry
Restricted airflow is the leading place to investigate. Check the lint screen and exterior vent opening, then consider the transition duct and longer concealed run. Moisture sensors, weak heating components and overloaded drums can also increase cycle time.
Dryer won't start
A tripped breaker can affect an electric dryer even when some controls still appear active. A door switch, start switch, thermal fuse or belt switch can also prevent operation. Reset the breaker once, confirm the door closes correctly and arrange service if the fault remains.
Dryer making a squeaking or scraping sound
A squeal can come from a worn idler or roller. Thumping may indicate a damaged roller, while scraping can involve front glides or a drum seal. Stop using the dryer if the noise is worsening so a small mechanical repair does not become drum damage.
Dryer not spinning
A broken or displaced belt is a common cause, but seized rollers, a failing motor or an obstruction around the blower can produce similar symptoms. Do not repeatedly start a dryer that only hums because a stalled motor can overheat.
Clean vent and still no heat, or a drum that won't turn? We test the heating circuit and drive parts, replace the failed component and handle gas dryer work to code across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

Dryer FAQ
Why is my dryer running but not heating?
Electric dryers commonly develop element, thermal-fuse or thermostat faults. Gas dryers more often involve ignition or valve components. Restricted venting can contribute to overheating and repeated fuse failure.
Why does my dryer take two cycles?
Restricted airflow is a frequent cause. A blocked vent, crushed transition duct or exterior obstruction can keep moist air from leaving efficiently. Heating components and moisture sensors should also be checked.
How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
The appropriate interval depends on the vent length, number of bends, appliance and usage. Long or complex residential runs deserve more frequent attention. A noticeable increase in drying time is a good reason to inspect the system.
How do I reset a dryer?
Disconnect power for about a minute and restore it if the manufacturer permits a reset. A thermal fuse that has failed will not reset and the cause of the overheating still needs to be corrected.
Do you repair gas dryers?
Yes. Gas dryer repairs are handled by appropriately certified technicians, with the fuel connection and burner operation checked after the work.
Why does my dryer keep blowing the thermal fuse?
Repeated fuse failures generally mean the appliance is overheating. Restricted airflow and faulty temperature controls are important suspects, so replacing the fuse alone is not a complete repair.
Can you repair heat-pump and ventless dryers?
Yes. These models require different diagnostics because they use fans, heat exchangers, condensate systems and sensors instead of a conventional externally vented heating arrangement.
